why choose harrowby?

why choose harrowby primary school for your child?

At Harrowby, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, vibrant, and inclusive environment where all children can thrive. We are proud of our rich diversity and committed to delivering a curriculum that is both meaningful and relevant to the unique needs of our school community. We believe that fostering strong relationships with parents and the wider community is key to creating an environment where children can flourish and reach their full potential.

Learning environments

Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to encourage independence and enhance learning throughout the school. We’ve created inviting reading areas both inside and outside the classrooms, providing comfortable spaces where children can enjoy and immerse themselves in books.

our class sizes are small

Our teacher/pupil ratio is high, so children receive more one-to-one teaching time and a highly-personalised learning experience. Our mixed-year group classes also enable pupils to learn with older children when appropriate.

our nuturing environment

Mixed age classes mean children are encouraged to care for and support each other – a skill that they learn for life. Having different year groups learning and playing together creates a wonderfully positive environment for all.

curriculum

Our curriculum equips children with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success both now and in the future. Carefully designed to address real-life challenges, it reflects the needs and interests of our school community. We believe learning should be engaging, fun, and memorable. To bring the curriculum to life.

A School for every child

As an inclusive school, every child is valued and known by our dedicated staff. We take time to understand each child’s interests, achievements, and needs, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect within our school community.

core christian values

Our school values – Hope– Empathy – Aspiration – Respect and Trust – are central to everything that we do. These values guide our work and are reinforced through lessons, Collective Worship, and the daily life of the school.

parental involvement

We deeply value the partnership between home and school in supporting children’s learning. We invite parents to regularly engage in the life of the school through open days, workshops, and events that showcase their children’s achievements. Through clear, two-way communication, we work together to ensure each child’s needs are met and their potential is fully realised.

wraparound care

We understand the demands on working families, which is why we offer high-quality wraparound care provided by our own staff. Our breakfast club, which runs from 7:30 am, provides a healthy start to the day, while our after-school provision, running until 5:30 pm, offers a range of activities and a healthy snack. This care extends children’s social and learning opportunities and allows them to form friendships beyond their class.

how laat supports our schools

LAAT is a family of 24 wonderful schools, each with its own character, community and identity.

Our role is to support our schools and help them thrive. We bring together colleagues with expertise across education, finance, HR, estates, health and safety, data and operations, who work alongside school teams to provide advice, support and practical help. By sharing this expertise across LAAT, we can ease pressure on busy school leaders and give them more time to focus on what matters most: giving every child the best possible education.

What does LAAT do?

  • Education and school improvement – leadership, development, curriculum, teaching and learning, assessment and inclusion.
  • Finance – helping schools manage resources effectively and meet financial and regulatory requirements.
  • People and HR – recruitment, employee relations, wellbeing, training and professional development.
  • Operations and administration – supports the efficient day-to-day running of schools.
  • Health and safety – helping schools maintain safe environments for pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Data and insight – supporting informed decision-making and school improvement.
  • Governance– working with school and Trust governance structures to ensure effective processes and compliance.

What doesn’t LAAT do?

Being part of LAAT does not mean every school becomes the same. Schools retain their individual identity, character and connection to their communities.

LAAT does not:

  • Decide how individual schools organise their classes or classrooms.
  • Set day-to-day school routines.
  • Choose class names, displays or decorations.
  • Decide which trips, celebrations, events, clubs or enrichment activities take place.
  • Interfere with PTAs or Friends groups.
  • Decide which local traditions schools maintain.
  • Replace the relationship between schools, parents and their communities.
  • Dictate how schools engage with their local communities.
  • Set each school’s calendar and events programmes.
  • Control how schools communicate with families, provided they meet Trust standards.
  • Make every spending decision for schools; school leaders manage their delegated budgets withing the Trust’s financial framework.
